Braille and Math Events

The Braille Challenge (link) is a nationwide competition organized by the Braille Institute that allows children who read Braille to demonstrate and strengthen their literacy skills. Students participate in regional contests across the country, and top performers are invited to the finals in Los Angeles for a multi-day event celebrating Braille excellence and achievement.

The Braille Readers are Leaders (link) is a reading contest organized by the National Federation of the Blind , that encourages children to log as many minutes of Braille reading as possible between December and January. The program promotes daily reading habits, develops literacy skills, and celebrates progress with awards and recognition for participants.

The Abacus Bee (link) is a newer competition designed for blind and visually impaired children to showcase their math skills. Participants solve arithmetic problems using mental math or an abacus, fostering confidence, numeracy, and healthy competition in a supportive environment.
